Operating Principle:
Softening is a process where Calcium and Magnesium ions are exchanged for Sodium ions. Calcium and Magnesium ions associated with Alkalinity contribute for scale formation. These ions are also called as Total hardness. The strong acid Cation exchange resin in Sodium form is used for softening the water. When the resin is exhausted, it is regenerated with brine solution (Sodium Chloride) 10 % or 15% brine solution is normally used for the regeneration. If the brine solution is passed from the bottom of the resin and service flow is from the top, then it is called as Up flow softener.  Ultra filtration is a unique pressure-driven physical separation process in which the water is passed through porous (partially permeable) membranes with pore sizes in the range of 0.1 to 0.01 micron.These membranes are in the form of long hollow fibers.  The result is high pure water free from physical and biological contaminations.Ultra filtration is not fundamentally different from microfiltration or nano filtration, except in terms of the size of the molecules it retains.Ultra filtration is applied in cross-flow or dead-end mode and separation in ultra-filtration undergoes concentration polarization.

Typically, UF membranes will remove high molecular-weight substances, colloidal materials, silt, turbidity, organic / inorganic polymeric molecules, pollen, algae, particulate matters, suspended solids and all microorganisms like parasites, bacteria, cryptosporidium, giardia lamblia, viruses, endotoxins and other pathogens. These membranes are in the form of long hollow fibers. The result is high pure water free from physical and biological contaminations.

Operating Principle:

  • The water flow is directed straight through the membrane, or in “cross flow” fashion where a portion of the input water flows across the membrane surface to filter out most colloids, enzymes, microorganisms, particles and end toxins above their rated sizes.
