The membrane bioreactor (MBR) process is based on a treatment scheme wherein suspended growth activated sludge process micro-porous membranes for solid/liquid separation are applied instead of secondary clarifiers. It also creates a barrier for some pathogens which normally remain untreated by chlorine dosing.  Standard modules facilitate a shorter delivery period. The completely pre engineered units require very less civil works and can be erected and commissioned in a short time span. The pre fabricated units are independent of site location (i.e.) in places where there is space constraint or cost of space is very high, these units can be located either on the top of the building, structures or in the basement.
Working Principle /Process/operation:
 The packaged units work on a media based biological degradation. The specifically developed media made from UV stabilized and chemically resistant propylene offers an ideal condition for growth of micro organisms to degrade the incoming organic contaminants. The use of media also reduces the aeration tank sizes substantially thereby reducing the footprint of Sewage Treatment plant. The process air required is provided by means of twin lobe type air blower which transfers air through rugged EPDM diffusers. The media also substantially reduces the sludge generation from these units.
MOVING BED BIOFILM REACTOR (MBBR) TECHNOLOGY
 
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) processes improve reliability, simplify operation, and require less space than traditional wastewater treatment systems.
 MBBR technology employs thousands of polyethylene biofilm carriers operating in mixed motion within an aerated wastewater treatment basin. Each individual biocarrier increases productivity through providing protected surface area to support the growth of heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria within its cells. It is this high-density population of bacteria that achieves high-rate biodegradation within the system, while also offering process reliability and ease of operation.
This technology provides cost-effective treatment with minimal maintenance since MBBR processes self-maintain an optimum level of productive biofilm. Additionally, the biofilm attached to the mobile biocarriers within the system automatically responds to load fluctuations.

Process/Operation:
 The Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) is a biological system coupled with a membrane to enhance solid-liquid separation and filtration. The membrane is made of cost-effective non-woven fibrous material. It has many outstanding properties, such as controllable pore sizes and easy fabrication of the membrane module to achieve the desired surface area. The MBR can achieve desired permeation rate at low transmembrane pressure.
 MEMBRANE BIO REACTOR
 
An MBR can best be described as one part of a biological process where small microbes degrade pollutants before being filtered by a collection of submerged membranes. Membranes are housed in modules that are, in turn, assembled into cassettes and installed in a tank (called an MBR). Air introduced through integral diffusers scours membrane surfaces during filtration, mixes the tank and provides oxygen to the biological process.

An MBR system is a complete set of components that allows a process to function.  Assuming the same reuse and quality effluent and similar solids management goals, an Enviroquip MBR system can be 50% less complicated than a comparable conventional wastewater treatment plant and require less than 25% of the footprint (land area).

Bio-Hybrid™is an advanced ‘plug and play’ modular MBR wastewater treatment system featuring the submerged MBR ultra filtration modules. The Bio-Hybrid™is engineered to provide a high quality effluent, treated to Class A standards and suitable for a variety of reuse applications.
 The fully pre-assembled and factory tested Bio-Hybrid™modular plant is supplied in an ISO shipping container format for ease of transportation.Primary and bioreactor tanks are open topped with safety railings around access points. Permeate pumps, aeration blower, dosing systems, monitoring and control systems are housed in a lockable control room located at the front of the plant.
