Siddharthnagar: The Untouched Jewel of the Buddha Circuit
Nestled in the serene foothills of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Siddharthnagar is a land of profound spiritual legacy, rich biodiversity, and deep-rooted cultural traditions. It is the ancient home of Prince Siddharth before he became Gautam Buddha, making it one of the most sacred and historic destinations in the world.
Kapilvastu – The Ancient Stupa & Capital of the Shakya Kingdom
Located in Piprahwa, Siddharthnagar is home to the ruins of Kapilvastu, where Prince Siddharth spent his first 29 years.
Piprahwa Stupa is believed to house the relics of Lord Buddha.
It is part of the internationally recognized Buddha Circuit, connecting Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, and Sarnath.
The Heritage of Siddharthnagar
Childhood of the Buddha
Siddharthnagar is the cradle of a spiritual revolution. Prince Siddharth grew up in opulence in the Shakya palace in Kapilvastu, receiving education and martial arts training. His early exposure to suffering around the kingdom prompted the "Four Sights" and eventually, the journey toward enlightenment.
Kalanamak Rice – The Buddha Rice
This region is famous for its Kalanamak Rice, believed to have been gifted by the Buddha himself. Grown exclusively in Siddharthnagar, it is aromatic, low in sugar, rich in iron, and historically significant, now recognized under the GI tag.
Majhauli Sagar – Sanctuary of Migratory Birds
Majhauli Sagar Lake is a paradise for bird watchers, hosting thousands of migratory birds from Siberia, Mongolia, Central Asia, and Europe every winter. Species include bar-headed geese, ruddy shelducks, painted storks, and sarus cranes, making Siddharthnagar a hidden eco-tourism hotspot.
The Shakya Dynasty
Siddharthnagar was part of the Shakya republic, a democratic kingdom known for discipline, knowledge, and spiritual pursuits, with common cultural exchange with Nepal and other Buddhist regions.
Cultural Richness of Siddharthnagar
Traditional Cuisine
Siddharthnagar boasts an earthy, sattvic food culture with dishes like Kalanamak Rice khichdi, poha, and pudding, alongside litti chokha and seasonal vegetables.
Traditional Attire
Men wear dhoti-kurta, gamcha, and pagri, while women don sarees, often with traditional jewelry like bichhua and payal.
Dance Forms
Local folk dances like Birha, Bidesia, and Faruwahi are performed during seasonal fairs and marriages, showcasing vibrant cultural traditions.
Festivals
Maghi Purnima, Buddha Purnima, and Chhath Puja are celebrated with devotion and cultural pride, reflecting the region's spiritual heritage.
Our Director, Utprerak Srivastava, along with Aman Srivastava, proudly showcased this rich heritage at the Buddha Bhoomi Bharat event, aiming to promote Siddharthnagar as a global destination for Buddhist tourism.
Buddha Bhoomi Bharat Event in Thailand
The Buddha Bhoomi Bharat event in Thailand was a significant occasion, displaying sacred relics of Lord Buddha, Arahant Sariputta, and Maha Moggallana—the only time they were collectively enshrined abroad.
The inauguration ceremony at Sanam Luang featured senior monks, Thai PM Srettha Thavisin, Governor Rajendra Arlekar, and Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar.
The event included a Mandapam promenade, a cultural parade, and a digital pavilion titled 'Buddha Bhoomi Bharat: Journey Along the Footsteps of Bhagwan Buddha'.
